In New Mexico, we are working to make Bernalillo County and the City of Albuquerque models of governance that prioritizes working people and growing workforce development programs that are accessible to poor and working class communities.

We will continue to advance local policies that create the groundswell for statewide mandates for labor standards and community benefits. At the state level, we have the opportunity to move strong progressive legislation to make New Mexico the beacon of the Southwest.

Our goals include:

  1. Address the current absence of good quality and union jobs in New Mexico, including in the green energy and residential and commercial construction sectors, by working with state and local government to strengthen worker standards and ensure strong enforcement.
  2. Advocate for local government to strengthen and enforce its ability to hold corporations accountable and center community demands on engagement, jobs, housing, and climate through intervening on IRBs and other economic development processes.
  3. Advance new local policies that get us closer to standardizing community benefit agreements and that include project labor agreements on every economic development investment greater than $10 million.
  4. Scale a transformative, accessible workforce development program to establish a diverse pipeline of local workers into good union jobs.
  5. Grow the local ecosystem, the membership, base, and power of community organizations and unions, and build worker power in Bernalillo County with a diverse workforce, with a vision to help maintain a long-term space for these workers to continue to grow as worker leaders in their communities, their worksites and their unions to support them in becoming the next generation of labor leaders in our state.
